   Packing
Students often survive on a budget and this can be beneficial when travelling. It's often wise to take little and inexpensive replaceable items with you, particularly when backpacking.

You either love it or hate it, packing can be a pain in the backside or a delight mmmmm!!! No matter how long you spend trying to cram everything in your rucksack, suitcase or hand luggage you always wish you had brought other items of your wardrobe when you arrive @ your destination.

Ok lets forget about clothes for the moment and concentrate on the mundane yet important items that need to be taken and kept safe:

* That little book called a Passport
* Travel tickets
* Accommodation vouchers or addresses
* Credit card and bank account details/cash
* Travellers cheque numbers
* Insurance certificate and contact details
* Driving licence if you wish to hire or buy a clapped out car to drive along the great ocean road.
* Inoculation certificates
* Visas and/or work permits.
* And not forgetting condoms and tampax if you think you might need them unless you know how to ask for them in Dutch⿦⿦.⿦..'Het handvat van de pan is heet'

Take a photocopy of important documents and keep them safe and separate from the originals so you will have an emergency copy if you loose the real McCoy. Alternatively give the photocopy of your bank details etc to a friend or relative. Preferably one that you are not travelling with! DER! In case of an emergency.

Hand luggage allowances vary between airline companies; most restrict you to one bag weighing a limit of 5kg. And you cannot sneak in the following items:
Knifes, guns, any cutting or puncturing instruments, mace, teargas, pepper spray, Aerosol cans, explosives, flammable liquids or solids, catapults, darts, Hypodermic Needle or anything else incriminating and that includes those knitting needles but that goes with out saying really!

Like hand luggage there is a maximum weight for your suitcase or rucksack this again depends on which airline you are travelling with but is usually around 20 kilo's. Tie a lovely little pink bow or stick a plaster on your case (attractive) to save you the embarrassment of wearing your opposite sex's clothes for a fortnight holiday or even a year when you pick up the wrong luggage. You wouldn't want to loose any of your other essentials you packed as they cost you a fortune in Boots like your:

* Sun cream/moisturiser even if you are skiing you know!
* Don't forget your toothbrush & toothpaste, hairbrush or comb, BO buster, soap, nail scissors, tweezers (for girls) shampoo and conditioner and shaving bits to defuzz.
* Sunglasses, pulling factor er, not to mention eye protection
* Insect Repellent unless fancy looking like a red spotted *@"+
* Camera, extra film and batteries to catch all those memories
* Swimwear whether you are into Speedo, bikini, and trunks or suppose commando so you obviously don't need to.
* lip salve (small pot of Vaseline is great)
* Swiss army style pen knife for?
* Address book- to boost to all those friends in their postcards your adventures
* Travel guide, phrase book and a great reading book while soaking up those rays
* Small sewing kit and safety pins- never know when your buttons will drop off?
* Alarm clock/watch to keep you in with reality
* And finally a first-aid kit, with plasters, pain killers and antiseptic cream.

Well the good thing is that you earned a lot of Boots points but can you fit them all in? Tip: Just get someone to sit on your suitcase while you do it up, mmm! Best to put all lotions and potions in plastic bags to save explosions.

Rucksacks

Decided to go backpacking and you have spent hours choosing a comfortable rucksack with the important padded straps, back and waist belt and not forgetting one that matches the majority of clothes that you are taking. You have been delaying the time to pack bit its no good it has to be packed now, as you have to be at the airport in 2 hours. Well talking from experience it doesn't actually take that long to be honest just choose your favourite 7 pairs of underwear (stretching washing to a week unless you wear them inside out), socks, 3 pairs of trousers/skirts/shorts depending on the climate, six pairs of t-shirts/tops some long sleeved/ jumper, a couple of going out tops/shirts, pair of sandals/walking boots (make sure they have been worn in) trainers, a towel etc. When you get to your destination you can always stock up if need.

There are a few items however that can double up as money uses i.e. a sarong and that's you Beckham followers as well:

Use 1: A sarong like the gorgeous one above
Use 2: A head scarf (Thelma and Louise)
Use 3: A neck scarf (don't choke)
Use 4: A towel (def lighter)
Use 5: A blanket
Use 6: A bag to carry your shopping
Use 7: Use at for toga @ a toga party
Use 8: Boob tube
Use 9: Head Band
Use 10: A dress
Use 11: A throw over to brighten up your bed- to impress!
Use 12: To cover you rucksack if it rains actually make that your hair ok think I am pushing it now.

So nearly done- hang on check over the essentials above and these must takes for travellers

* Jar of marmite if you are a lover as vegemite is not the same,
* Door stop yes if you are feeling uncomfortable in a room it ads a bit of security,
* Plastic bag as you never know when it will come to hand.
* Sleeping bag is always good in times of bed bug bunks and saves you on linen that is not always clean.
* A copy of your CV if going to be job hunting saves you having to type it when you get there.

You can forget your luxuries like straightening irons, hair dryers, bubble bath, perfume, travel iron, Adapters you are roughing it!
Ok you might want to buy a cheap hair dryer when you get there? A great thing to sort out though B4 U GO! Is to set up an e-mail address if you haven't got one already, it's the easiest way to stay in touch.
