As usual Christmas comes early for Harrods
As a student and often on a budget, you may find Harrods a little pricey, but read on for some of their shocking prices for Christmas decorations. Although most people are celebrating the fact that it’s summer and basking in the glorious sunshine – Harrods of London are on a completely different wavelength!! Christmas officially arrived in London today as one retailer ignored the hot weather and opted for the festive spirit instead.

Harrod’s have launched it’s 15,000 sq ft ‘Christmas World’ reminding it’s customers that they have only 139 shopping days left before December 25! Bing Crosby’s ‘Let It Snow’ played in the background of the department store’s Christmas area and a Father Christmas dressed in a red Safari Suit and accompanied by a zebra were drafted in to mark the event.

Harrods said it’s main reasons for launching the Christmas World in August every year for the last decade is because of foreign tourists.

Harrod’s rival Selfridges will open
it’s Christmas shop on Thursday which is a fortnight earlier than usual.

Tinsel, Christmas trees, cards and decorations are among the items crammed into the festive area on Harrods’ second floor

Here’s for the shocking news!! You could buy a single bauble from as little as 75p or as much as £329!!! £329 for 1 x Bauble! Also if you wanted to pick up some Christmas Crackers, it could set you back £1,000 for a box of 8 – they are luxury though! So that makes it ok and then, this is what really got me, we all know someone who every year is the most difficult person to buy for because they already have everything. WELL how about a £15,000 Christmas gift voucher!!! Sure they’ll find something with that!!

Peter Willasey, Harrod’s corporate communications director, said the August launch came in response to high customer demand. Of course there are cynics who say it is far too early – his response to this was: “If the whole store was decked out then yes, it would be too early, but that won’t be until the beginning of November, just this one small area will be up and running before then”
